Wise Surf Shop And Surf Lessons | Surf School
By John Western
I heard a lot about Wise surf school, surf lessons and surf shop in San Francisco (close by my home of Santa Cruz) so I thought I'd ask some people what they thought about this place. This is what real people said about their surf shop, surf lessons and surf school just in case I need to venture from Santa Cruz: A little pricey but I found a great wet suit, thinking about taking up surf lessons with them this summer. And with all the cute surfers I can't wait to get some skills. I have been a body surfer for years and am hoping to be able to make a smooth transition into surfing. First surf school surf lesson is tomorrow! I tried Surf School Santa Cruz and loved it! Wise is large and has everything you may need, I give them just an ok review because the customer service was a little hard to get the attention of.... and pricey... Have fun! -Jenny L San Francisco, CA Good selection of boards and equipment here but this does not make up for the staff that I have dealt with here with their sub par surf lessons and surf school. Customer service is obviously not of a great concern. I came into the shop with questions about their surf school surf lessons and was ready to purchase but after being treated like less than human for asking questions by the all too cool guy behind the counter, I left. Your main concern should be helping customers make informed purchases, not proving how much more you know about surfing than them. Not going back to Wise. Will make the trip to Pacifica or Santa Cruz for my shopping now. -Phil K San Francisco, CA Hey Bob Wise...just wanted to give you feedback on my recent purchase from Wise of an Xcel Infiniti 4/3 Dry Lock suit....great suit (!) and decent (maybe good, certainly not great) deal from your shop at 25% off. As I walked out the shop, though, I felt completely pissed. What happened? Well, I threw down $320.24 all together for the suit (which I had NO problem with whatsoever) on my credit card, signed the sales receipt and then remembered that I needed a wax comb. So, I said to your employee (cashier #3, sorta dark skinned guy with glasses who I met a few years back in the wetsuit section--he's been with you for years): "I almost forgot that I need a wax comb too." Employee says "no problem" and then rings me up for $1.43 or some minor amount (I can't quite remember the exact charge). So, I pull my wallet back out looking for a couple of singles (to no avail) and hand him a $20 bill. No biggie, right? Wrong. Moral of the Story: When a customer spends over $300 dollar at your shop in the middle of the hardest recession we've ever experienced, you might wanna consider showing just a little bit of appreciation (say a bar of wax or, hell, even a wax comb). I frankly wasn't expecting a freebie, but when cashier #3 made me break a $20 bill for this, it kinda struck me as wrong (& REALLY BAD BUSINESS). Know that I originally stopped in at Aqua to look at Xcel suits and when they didn't have my size, they referred me over to Wise (cool dudes that THEY are)....but, GET THIS, the guy who runs the shop floats my 2 1/2 year old son a couple of sweet decals and tells him to "take it easy on your pop". My kid was ecstatic and I told the Aqua guy that I was sorry I couldn't pick up the Xcel suit from him (I'm even MORE sorry now). So, Bob, you may have the best board selection in Nor Cal and the raddest location going, but you and your employees lack one critical element needed for me to ever do business with you again: SOUL PS...as I walked out the door holding my toddler son, I said "what a bunch of BARNIES these cats are" and my son kept saying "BARNIES, BARNIES, BARNIES" all the way home. Now, every time we drive by Wise Surfboards, I point to the windows and my son starts spewing "BARNIES, BARNIES, BARNIES..."---it's freaking hilarious and well worth the price of a $1.43 wax comb (so thanks for that at least). I wanted to have my kid take a look at your surf school surf lessons, but now I will use Surf School Santa Cruz and Bud Freitas. Thanks for changing my mind. |
